The Spider Bites Again
Hope everyone enjoyed this past weekend. A lot of different topics to discuss! Photos feature was not working and didn’t want to delay this any longer.
This weekend Triller returned with it’s second “legends” card where Vitor Belfort headlined against Evander Holyfield. Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva took on former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. When this card was announced the only thing I was actually excited to see is Anderson Silva continue to box like he always wanted to do but unfortunately Dana White never allowed him to make the cross over. Originally Vitor Belfort was supposed to box Oscar De La Hoya but Oscar caught Covid and was forced to pull out. Replacing Oscar was former Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield. Prior to the bout he would post videos hitting bags and mitts as well. He didn’t look terrible, until his open workout. The 58 year old Holyfield looked about 65, punches looked slow, power wasn’t there, it was truly just embarrassing to watch. His mind was trying to do things his body could no longer do. This translated straight into the main event bout. Evander threw a punch that missed and he ended up diving face first into the ropes. Vitor ended up winning by TKO and it proved to me exactly what I felt prior….this fight should have never happened. It’s unfortunate the athletic commision of Florida let these fights happen. Until someone gets hurt, they’ll never learn. Vitor then called out Jake Paul using vulgar language while wearing boxing shorts that said “Jesus” and his family behind him. It just put the icing of this mess of card.
Now let’s talk Anderson Silva! This fight I was only excited to watch Anderson show his mastery of striking against Ortiz. From the beginning bell Tito was throwing sloppy strikes and Anderson just played with him before knocking him out with a short right. Tito fell face first to the ground, making it the first time he’s been knocked unconscious in his career. I’ve never been happier for someone fighting at Anderson’s age. I would love to see him fight a couple more times against maybe Roy Jones Jr., who he’s always wanted to be in the ring against or maybe boxing’s new superstar Jake Paul. In conclusion, I don’t see Triller lasting that long if they’re going to put guys who probably shouldn’t be boxing for the sake of their health. They’ll be gone before we welcome in 2022.
In music news, an album I anticipated from Country music artist Kacey Musgraves released this past Friday titled, “ Star Crossed”. This album had plenty of pressure riding on it after the release of her Grammy winning “Golden Hour”, which is my personal favorite album of all of time. In this post divorce themed album, she gives us so many different sounds and lyrics that’ll cross your mind immediately after listening. From the sweet flute solo and disco feel on “There is a light” to the spanish cover of “ Gracias a la vida”. There’s just not one track that misses and I’m sure the visuals will be just as amazing. Another classic by Miss Musgraves.
