UFC 266- Nick Diaz is back!
Yes, you read that correctly. The man who made his UFC debut at UFC 44 September 26, 2003 is back! After being away from the sport for 6 years, he returns to face a former foe. Former UFC Welterweight Champion Ruthless Robbie Lawlor. This comes 17 years after there first bout at UFC 47 with Diaz finishing Lawlor with a memorable KO in round 2. Who would’ve thought we would be seeing this matchup 17 YEARS LATER! Nick Diaz taking 6 years off such a brutal sport, will do him wonders. I feel fighters need a break, especially the brain and nagging injuries. Also quite frankly to just enjoy life and not be in a fight camp and away from family a couple times per year. I know the main event of this card is for the Featherweight Championship with Alex Volkanowski taking on Brian Ortega. But Diaz vs Lawlor is a 5 round non main event for a reason, it’s THE PEOPLE”S MAIN EVENT! We will see if Nick Diaz still has it and if Lawlor maybe has one more run in him. Either way this is made to be a classic, these guys will not be taking one step backward. I’ll be doing more predictions in exclusive post starting soon! WE HAVE A BANGER LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!
More Thoughts On UFC 266
This is probably the one of the most stacked card of the year (UFC 268 is fully loaded) and provides potential classics and maybe some bad matchups that needed to happen eventually as a certain title holder is running out of challengers. I think we all know where I’m going here.
Valentina Shevchenko vs Lauren Murphy
There’s no secret to how the UFC women’s flyweight division is very dense. Champion Shevchenko has looked dominant in every single one of her flyweight title defenses. Coming out of each bout unscathed and ready for the next challenge. She faces the streaking Lauren Murphy. Though I feel Murphy has earned her title shot, Shevchenko is just way to ahead of the game and shows no weakness. The only chance I see Murphy having here is through her size, a former featherweight, she can possibly get the champion down to the ground and lay on her but that is easier said than done. I think Murphy can become a champion in this division, once Shevchenko leaves the division. I expect Valentina to get a early finish here.
Alex Volkanowski vs Brian Ortega
The main event of the evening has been brewing for a while now. The Championship bout between the two surging featherweights was originally scheduled for April but Champion Volkanowski went down with Covid. They two ended up coaching the Ultimate Fighter (which not many people watched) and it lit a flame under the rivalry. Volkanowski has yet to taste defeat in the UFC, defeating the likes of Max Halloway twice (debatable) and awkward style makes it hard for others to get comfortable. I feel Ortega’s style works perfect against the champion, especially after Ortega’s improved striking and dominant performance against the Korean Zombie. I feel Ortega will take this to a place that Max didn’t, to the ground. The UFC gets a new Champion this Saturday. Ortega wins by late submission.
Other Notable matchups to look forward to
Jessica Andrade vs Cynthia Calvillo
Jairzhino Rozenstruik vs Curtis Blaydes
Dan Hooker vs Nasrat Haqparast
Marlos Moraes vs Merab Dvalishvili
Monday Night Raw is on FIRE!
I’m not sure who’s writing Monday’s show these days but whoever is, is doing a swell job! The competition of AEW has got the WWE turning up the heat on Mondays! Started off with an excellent battle between the New Day and the Bloodline, teasing a future Survivor Series elimination match. Then we get great matches from Jeff Hardy, Sheamus, and even having Angel Garza and Humberto Carillo looking amazing as a tag team. I’m glad to see WWE actually use the amazing superstars they have. Then we get probably the best main event we have gotten in a long time Big E vs Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley which had Roman Reigns coming out on top. But wow what a main event that was, could’ve headlined a PPV. Can’t wait to see what happens next Monday and this Sunday at the Extreme Rules PPV!
