Views from the weekend
Hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Hope all of you slept in extra late and feel rejuvenated for the week! Here are some of my thoughts from the weekend!
Derek Brunson defeated Darren Till by third round rear naked choke, which now puts him on a 5 fight winning streak. Wow, who would’ve thought the man who was seen as a gate keeper would put together such a streak. Let’s not forget he has lost to the elite of the division, being the champion Israel Adesanya and former champion Robert Whittaker. But I feel it’s time to do the rematch or he faces Cannonier in December. Brunson has completely earned my respect and should no longer be seen as a gate keeper. Till on the other hand is 1-4 in his last five and I feel he should consider going down to welterweight. These guys just seem to big for him, the skill is there just maybe not the size. He’s still young and has time to improve where need be. Why not do Till vs Edward’s at welterweight. Love that matchup.
Paddy the Baddy has arrived! What an exciting debut, I think we have the next European star since the arrival of Conor Mcgregor. I admit maybe he shouldn’t be taking shots like he did in the beginning of round 1 but I feel that was just his excitement. People will be calling to fight this man and want to shut down the hype train. Yes I say hype train for now because he’s got to beat the elite of the scariest division in the UFC….the light weight division. Hope to see Paddy return maybe in December. Give him Jim Miller or have Joe Lauzon return against him on a card in the UK.
We’re getting a fight we never wanted this weekend. Oscar De la Hoya is out with covid so Evander Holyfield is stepping in to fight Vitor Belfort. I didn’t want to see the De La Hoya fight and I honestly don’t want to see this one as well. There’s weight classes for a reason. MMA fans will be upset after this one. But a good fight to watch on this card is Anderson Silva vs Tito Ortiz! Anderson had a great showing against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and I expect him to do even better here against a slow, aging Tito Ortiz.
Hope everyone enjoy the week, there’s a lot of local cards on make sure to tune into those! We’re also inching in to Robbie Lawlor vs Nick Diaz 2!!
Oh I did mention I would speak about some music as well. Drake released an album this weekend titled “Certified Lover Boy”. Probably his worst album and I doubt I go back to it. Drake is too comfortable in his position but I feel this will motivate him to put out a masterpiece next time around. I’m a drake Stan and I believe in him!!
